Many of Australia’s unique terrestrial orchids may face heightened extinction risk because of their obligate dependence on pollinators and fungi. This project is investigating the consequences of these interactions for orchid speciation and vulnerability and provide unique opportunities to study the evolutionary interactions among orchids, pollinators and mycorrhizae. The outcomes will inform both evolutionary theory and future conservation programs. The Postdoctoral Fellow will join a multidisciplinary team whose expertise spans the fields of evolution, pollination ecology, fungal ecology, population genetics, phylogenetics and conservation biology. The goal of this position will be to conduct high quality research on the ecology, genetics and phylogeny of orchid mycorrhizal fungi and will include field and laboratory work on fungal distributions and mycorrhizal specificity. An excellent record of publication in the relevant field(s), demonstrated willingness to work as a team, field work experience and willingness to undertake interstate field work is essential.
