Jobs by tag(s): single molecule optical trap fret

job description

Job description
A postdoctoral position is available for a highly motivated individual seeking apply optical trapping and single pair FRET to the problem of cardiovascular regulation. Our laboratory studies energetic, kinetic, and structural aspects of the cardiac myofilament, a supramolecular protein assembly that functions as a Ca2+-sensitive switch. Our main techniques are spFRET and molecular modeling. We study the cardiac myofilament due to its role in heart failure and since it reveals fundamental properties of nano-scale switches (Robinson, Phys Rev Lett, 101:178104). The position is for a NIH-funded project (RO1-HL097106)) that seeks to understand allosteric switching in terms of free energy landscape over functional states of the system. The project involves performing spFRET measurements of troponin that has been incorporated into an actin thin filament within an optical trap.

Job requirements
Candidates must have PhD in physics, biochemistry, biophysics, biomedical engineering, or similar field and have excellent written and oral communication skills. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in biological fluorescence. Experience with microfluidics is desirable.

South Dakota State University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. Applicants are invited to email a copy of their current CV to john.robinson@sdstate.edu. Please also include a cover letter with research interests, career plans and description of research experience, and names and contact details of three references. This position is available immediately. Salary is commensurate with experience and NIH guidelines.  Preference is for applicants who are US citizens or permanent residents, but qualified international applicants are certainly encouraged to apply.

John M. Robinson MD, PhD

Assistant Professor

South Dakota State University

Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry

Employer Information
South Dakota State University (SDSU) is the premiere research institution in South Dakota. The Center for Biological Control and Analysis by Applied Photonics (BCAAP) within the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at SDSU was started in 2009 with a $6 million seed grant from the South Dakota 2010 initiative. The PI was recruited to BCAAP approximately 1.5 years ago to initiate a program in biological signaling based on nano-Biophysics methods.

Don’t forget to mention Naturejobs when applying.
