job description
A post-doctoral position is available to work on an NIH funded project on the molecular mechanisms of synapse formation and axon termination in C. elegans. The project involves using genetic, biochemical and proteomic approaches to understand the molecular mechanisms of how neurons form synapses and how synapse formation is coordinated with axon extension and termination. These studies will use the nematode, C. elegans, primarily, but may also involve cultured cell lines.
The successful applicant will have published a first author paper in an internationally recognized journal, and will have received a Ph.D. in neuroscience, genetics, biochemistry or some other relevant subject area within the last two years. The successful applicant will have experience in biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics or neuroscience. While experience in at least one of these subject areas is required, the applicant need not be proficient in all areas. Experience working with C. elegans or other invertebrate model systems, while advantageous, it is not a requirement for the position.
Applicants should submit a cover letter, CV and list of at least three references to bgrill@umn.edu.
