Job Title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Machine Learning Job Number: 4010081 Date Posted: 10/11/2011 Application Deadline: 11/15/2011
Job Description
Excellent opportunity to conduct innovative research
Work in a leading scientific environment with dedicated professionals
Join our team at CSIRO - Australia’s premier science & technology research organisation!
CSIRO ICT Centre is seeking to appoint a highly motivated career researcher who will take a substantive role in developing a theoretical and computational framework for information dynamics. This new area on intersection of Machine Learning and Information Theory studies the manner in which components of a distributed system (e.g., network nodes) store, transfer and modify information. This project will take the perspective of distributed computation in order to provide a generic foundation which can be applied to many types of dynamics produced by complex systems, from security data to sensor networks to power transmission and distribution networks. In particular, the project will enhance and apply information dynamics methods in order to make cyber-security systems adaptive in real-time to threats that have not been pre-specified. Secondly, the post-doc will contribute to design of efficient methods for sensor-minimal diagnostics.
Specifically you will:
develop a learning system, extended with information dynamics methods, and deployed in a large networked grid, that is able to detect and be robust against a range of attacks and system anomalies (whether malicious or not) within critical network infrastructure
develop methods for data-driven modelling and unsupervised learning of patterns in sensor data, applying them to sensor-minimal diagnostics, in the context of bio- and health data, as well as power grid data
develop a new and inherently cross-disciplinary capability for Energy-Based Learning
receive advanced training in modern computational methods, professional induction and formal training courses, and financial support for international travel from ICT Centre’s Capability Development Fund
Location: Marsfield, NSW Salary: $75K to $82K plus up to 15.4% Superannuation Tenure: 3 years Ref No: NSW01076
To be successful you will have:
a PhD degree in computational and/or statistical science or related discipline
a strong background in contemporary methods of information theory and graph theory, especially transfer entropy and/or random Boolean networks
a substantial publication record, including journal publications in journals with ISI impact factors
strong scientific programming skills with expertise in Java/C++ and MATLAB
